Quality alarm made in Italy

A carbon monoxide alarm is needed in every building or room with a solid-fuel heating system: a wood-burning stove, cooker or fireplace, or a gas water heater.

Carbon monoxide is a highly dangerous gas that is invisible, tasteless and odourless and can only be detected with a carbon monoxide alarm. When inhaled, carbon monoxide binds oxygen in the blood and can cause serious harm, ranging from frequent malaise, headaches and vomiting to fatal consequences following exposure to very high concentrations or prolonged inhalation.

Choose a reliable, high-quality carbon monoxide alarm for your home so you can be confident that you will be alerted if carbon monoxide reaches a dangerous concentration.

Long power-source service life

The service life of this carbon monoxide alarm and its power source is guaranteed until June 2029.

Never need to replace batteries

The hassle of changing batteries is now a thing of the past. This carbon monoxide alarm has a built-in power source that never needs replacing. This keeps your home protected at all times. Buying batteries is an extra expense and also creates a risk if an alarm awaiting new batteries is forgotten for weeks until you happen to remember it at the shop. Throughout that time, the risk of carbon monoxide remains real, but the alarm neither measures it nor warns you.

Warranty covers the alarm's entire service life

The carbon monoxide alarm's long service life is fully covered by the manufacturer's warranty. This in itself indicates that this is a genuinely high-quality alarm designed to last for the promised period. The manufacturer guarantees it in full.

Moisture resistance IP 44

This carbon monoxide alarm is suitable for installation in a bathroom (IP44), where many homes have a gas water heater. As bathrooms are exposed to moisture and splashing water, not every alarm is suitable: the device must have an IP rating of at least 44.

When installing it in a bathroom, remember that the device is not waterproof and must be positioned correctly in accordance with the instructions. After taking a shower or bath (when the mirror is misted up and humidity is very high), ventilate the room immediately, as constantly high humidity adversely affects all electronic devices.

A carbon monoxide alarm saves lives

If there is a risk of a carbon monoxide leak in your home, be sure to install a carbon monoxide alarm! Check the homes of your elderly parents as well and advise them about this issue.

We have selected truly reliable, high-quality carbon monoxide alarms. The Honeywell XC70 carbon monoxide alarm is an effective, user-friendly device designed to serve you well for a long time. It continuously measures the concentration of carbon monoxide in the air and alerts you if the level of this toxic gas becomes harmful to health. It provides valuable extra protection in rooms with gas heating appliances, stoves and fireplaces, where closing a flue damper may allow poisonous carbon monoxide to enter the room.

An advantage of this carbon monoxide alarm is its long service life, which is fully covered by the manufacturer's warranty. The sensor and power source are guaranteed until June 2029. This convenient device does not require annual battery changes. Install it, use it for many years, and replace it when the alarm indicates the end of its service life. All you need to do is occasionally clean it with a vacuum cleaner or soft brush and test it monthly by pressing a button. Operating temperature: -10 °C to +45 °C.

Compared with other alarms sold in retail shops, this is a truly reliable, long-lasting and convenient device. Be demanding and critical when choosing devices intended to save your life and your family's lives, because products of all kinds, including very cheap ones, are available. Consider what compromises you are willing to make: would you compromise on reliability? Or on convenience, or would you prefer to replace your alarm more often and accept a shorter service life? The cheaper the alarm, the shorter the sensor's service life and sensitivity, and in any case the shorter the power-source service life.

Honeywell guarantees that the new carbon monoxide alarm will work correctly until the expiry date shown on the side of the device.

If you want a carbon monoxide alarm with an even longer service life, choose the Honeywell XC100D model, with a service life and warranty of up to 10 years and an additional display showing carbon monoxide levels.

NB! Remember that a smoke alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm are two different products. Neither replaces the other. A smoke alarm is usually installed on the ceiling, while a carbon monoxide alarm is generally mounted on a wall at breathing height.

More information

Installation

Once you have bought a carbon monoxide alarm, your first task is to read the instructions from beginning to end and familiarise yourself with your new safety device. Install your new alarm exactly as instructed in the manual. Remember that manufacturers design their products differently, and homes and their occupants differ too, so there is no single universal installation recommendation.

When choosing a location for the alarm, bear in mind that carbon monoxide weighs almost the same as the air around us. Because we cannot see carbon monoxide, nobody knows exactly where it is at any given moment. This depends on many factors: how air moves around your room, whether you use fans, have a window open or run an air-source heat pump, for example. All these factors move and circulate the air and any carbon monoxide it may contain. Since the aim is to protect people from breathing in this poisonous gas, it is important to install the alarm at breathing height, where the air we inhale is found.

Mount the carbon monoxide alarm on a wall near the heating appliance (approximately 1-3 m away), at breathing height. In a living room, use the height at which you normally sit on the sofa as a guide. In a bedroom, install it at sleeping height, and in a child's room, at the height at which children move about. Do not install it near ventilation systems or air ducts.

One carbon monoxide alarm is intended for use in one room, as the device only responds to carbon monoxide levels in that room. If carbon monoxide could also be produced in other rooms, install alarms there as well.

Secure the alarm firmly to the wall and do not use any kind of adhesive tape. If the device falls, a part of the sensor may be damaged even if it looks intact from the outside.

Check that the carbon monoxide alarm is working regularly, once a month, and clean it with a vacuum cleaner or soft brush when cleaning your home.

Carbon monoxide poisoning

Carbon monoxide is produced by incomplete combustion, usually in an oxygen-poor environment. Examples include closing a stove damper too soon, a poorly drawing gas water heater, an incorrectly adjusted gas cooker, a car engine running in a garage or a barbecue grill.

Odourless and colourless carbon monoxide is difficult to notice. A person affected often feels as though they are coming down with a viral illness. Symptoms resemble a cold but without a fever: mild poisoning can cause a slight headache, nausea, vomiting and tiredness, while more severe poisoning can cause a strong headache, drowsiness, a rapid pulse and seizures. Very high carbon monoxide concentrations can cause loss of consciousness, breathing to stop and the heart to cease beating.

Children, older people, those with heart or respiratory problems, pregnant women and pets are often the first to feel unwell. A dose of carbon monoxide relatively harmless to a strong, healthy adult can cause severe poisoning in a child.

FAQ – frequently asked questions

From how far away does the AlarmScan app work?

The app works only as far away as the phone's microphone can pick up the sound emitted by the alarm. In short, it must be right next to the alarm. Data is downloaded for that particular moment. If you later want information about what has happened in the meantime, you must download the data again.

The app does not transmit information on its own.

How can I tell whether there has been an alarm at home if my carbon monoxide alarm has no display?

After an alarm has cleared and the CO level has returned to normal, the device indicates the stored alarm once every minute with 3 beeps and 3 flashes of the Alarm/Fault LED. Pressing the button once stops the alarm indication. On models with an LCD display, pressing the button also shows the maximum recorded CO level for a few seconds alongside the flashing CO indicator. The alarm remains in memory for 7 days (unless the button has been pressed sooner).

How heavy is CO, or carbon monoxide?

CO, or carbon monoxide, has roughly the same specific weight as air (which consists of various gases). CO mixes very readily with air!

NB! DO NOT CONFUSE CO WITH CO2!

Does my carbon monoxide alarm work with the AlarmScan app?

It does if there is an "Alarm Scan" icon on the side of the device.
