The Woolpower clothing and sock range is divided into different classes according to the thickness of the merino wool fabric (200, 400, 600 and Lite). By combining them wisely or wearing them on their own, you can stay comfortable on a cool autumn day, in bitter winter cold, in changeable spring weather and on a cool summer evening.
Most Woolpower products are unisex and fit both men and women well.
Woolpower 200 base layer
The number 200 indicates the weight of the merino wool fabric in grams per square metre (200 g/m²).
Woolpower 200 clothing and socks are made from a unique, patented wool terry fabric (Ullfrotté Original), developed for the Swedish army back in the 1970s in collaboration with specialists from various fields. Today, it is used not only by the Swedish army but also by the Finnish and Norwegian armies, among many others.
Ullfrotté Original wool terry fabric has a smooth, flat-knit outer surface and a looped terry inner surface. The fabric’s fluffy loops, combined with the crimped wool fibres, create a garment that can retain a large amount of body heat. This forms an excellent insulating layer around your body.
Make sure the layer worn over your base layer is not too tight-fitting (sports leggings or similar), as it is important to leave a small air gap between layers in cold weather. Air is the best insulating material.
With its loose knit, exceptionally light weight and very soft feel, Woolpower 200 fabric offers true comfort and warmth!

Woolpower 400 mid-layer
Woolpower 400 jumpers and socks (400 g/m²) are also made from the well-known Ullfrotté Original wool terry fabric, but are slightly thicker than Woolpower 200 garments.
The Woolpower 400 jumper has a high collar, thumb loops on the sleeves depending on the model, and a longer back to keep your back well covered. You can open the full-length zip to release excess heat or close it to retain your body heat.
As an added bonus, the attractive, nature-inspired colours make you feel good whenever you wear your jumper.
Wear it as a mid-layer under a jacket, or simply as a stylish, functional jumper in warmer weather. Pull it on after exercise to avoid cooling down too quickly. Combine your Woolpower 400 jumper with Lite or 200 base layers to suit the temperature, your activity level and your own comfort.

Woolpower Lite base layer
The Lite label in product names identifies the thinnest merino wool products. They are made from thin merino fabric with a flat knit on both sides (no terry loops), offering comfort and warmth when you only need a thin extra layer under your clothes. A thin layer of Woolpower Lite next to your skin feels comfortable and cosy on summer evenings or in autumn as the weather cools, as well as in spring as it warms up. It is ideal when Woolpower 200 base layers start to feel too warm.
The most popular Lite product is the long-sleeved shirt. You can wear it day in, day out, almost all year round, either as a base layer or as a thin mid-layer.
Woolpower's thin socks are a smart choice for everyday wear in occupational footwear, everyday shoes and sports shoes alike. Replace your ordinary cotton socks with thin merino socks: they do not trap too much heat or develop unpleasant odours, they absorb moisture and keep your feet warm even if they do get sweaty or wet.

Woolpower for children
Children’s skin is very sensitive, and many refuse to wear woollen jumpers, hats, scarves or socks of any kind. This leaves parents at a loss, as woollen clothing has so many good qualities that keep children warm and dry in cold, damp weather.
Parents, take note – Woolpower merino wool clothing does not prickle or itch, even on children with the most sensitive skin.
At TAMREX, we have a good selection of warm, soft merino wool clothing for children.

A masterclass in Woolpower know-how
You know that being active outdoors calls for lighter, more breathable clothing, while standing still for long periods means wrapping up warmly. But what if you need to do both? What if physical activity is followed by a long period of standing still? This was the challenge set by the Swedish army, which Woolpower tackled in collaboration with leading specialists by developing Ullfrotté Original wool terry fabric
Functional wool terry fabric
Ullfrotté Original is a durable wool fabric made from fine merino wool, a little synthetic fibre and, above all, air.
Air is the best insulating material, which is why as much as 80% of the wool terry fabric is air! The air-filled terry loops limit the garment's contact with your body, leaving fewer points through which body heat can escape. Body heat is lost primarily through fabric in contact with your skin, creating what is known as a thermal bridge.
Woolpower base layers, mid-layers, hats and socks are made from merino wool fabric with a smooth knit on the outside and soft loops next to your skin. The fluffy loops of the fabric combine with the natural crimp of the wool fibres to create a knit that can hold a great deal of warm air generated by your body.
Durable
Look after your Woolpower clothing and it will last a very long time. Wash it infrequently and nourish it when you do, using a wool detergent containing lanolin. To help Woolpower products last longer, their outer surface contains a small amount of synthetic material (polyester, polyamide).
Absorbs moisture
When your body sweats, pressure within the fabric increases, causing moisture molecules to move towards cooler air where the pressure is lower. If the fabric has an open structure and the wool fibres have the right properties, they help transport moisture away from your body. Wool terry fabric keeps you warm even when it is wet or sweaty. Conversely, when it is warm outside, Woolpower merino wool fabric prevents your body from overheating.
No prickling, no itching – pleasantly soft against your skin
The answer to why your Woolpower jumper does not itch, while many merino garments do, lies in where the sheep come from and what they eat.
The properties of merino wool fibres depend on the sheep's living conditions and diet. Sheep that can roam outdoors and eat fresh green grass all year round grow long, fine, highly crimped wool. When the wool fibres in clothing made from this wool touch your skin, they bend back easily rather than prickling.
Sheep that spend part of the year indoors and eat dried or artificial feed grow coarser, shorter wool with less crimp. Wool clothing made from this material prickles and feels rough to wear. The wool fibres do not bend away when they touch your skin, causing itching.
Woolpower sources its raw material from merino sheep farms in Patagonia and Uruguay, where happy sheep live in excellent conditions and have glossy fleeces. They have plenty of room to roam, can stay outdoors all year round and eat fresh food.
Natural pilling
Once you have worn your Woolpower clothing for a while, you will notice pills forming on the wool. Do not worry, there is nothing unusual about this – your jumper is made from a natural fabric, after all. Pilling does not reduce the garment's functionality or properties in any way. Woolpower has chosen to preserve the crimp in the yarn rather than brush it out. Woolpower calls these pills a mark of pride. If they still bother you, you can go over your jumper with a fabric shaver from time to time. Otherwise, keep wearing your pilled Woolpower clothing with pride.
Self-cleaning effect
The keratin in wool breaks down bacteria that cause unpleasant odours. The core of a wool fibre contains two types of cells that absorb different amounts of moisture. One type swells more than the other, and this movement causes friction between the two cell types. This creates a mechanical self-cleaning effect. If you have been sweating in your Woolpower jumper, leave it to air, preferably in a damp, well-ventilated place.
Do not wash your Woolpower clothing too often: firstly, it is not necessary if you can air it sufficiently, and secondly, your garments will last longer.
Machine washable on a 60 °C programme
The surface of wool fibres is water-repellent and inhibits bacterial growth, preventing unpleasant odours from developing. Do not wash your Woolpower wool clothing too often; airing it in damp weather is beneficial instead. When you feel it is time for a wash, make sure you use a detergent containing lanolin to nourish the wool's natural properties, and a 60 °C wash programme. Do not worry, your clothing will not shrink.
