Unique wool terry knit
This very warm, soft merino wool high-neck top is made from the unique Ullfrotté Original wool terry fabric developed by Woolpower in 1970 in cooperation with the Swedish Army to keep soldiers stationed in camps in northern Sweden warm. Smooth and durable on the outside and looped on the inside, the fabric traps and retains considerable body heat.
This warm, soft merino wool top is versatile: wear it as a warm base layer, a mid-layer or simply as a jumper. With long sleeves, an extended back and a zip-opening high collar, the top has warm wool terry on the inside that insulates body heat and keeps it close to the body. Its circular-knitted body improves comfort because there are no lengthwise seams to rub. Combine it with other Woolpower garments to suit different conditions!
Warm and breathable
Depending on the specific garment (LITE range, wool terry 200, 400, etc.), the specially knitted merino wool fabric provides excellent insulation. The thicker the wool layer, the more air it can trap (as in wool terry), helping to retain body heat more effectively.
Practical details
The high collar keeps the neck warm, while the zip allows adjustment: when it gets too warm, excess heat can escape. The top is soft and comfortable to wear. Its extended back keeps the back covered, and elastic sleeve ends hold the sleeves in place. The thoughtful circular-knitted construction improves comfort, as numerous seams can cause discomfort. The body and sleeves are circular knitted, so there are no lengthwise seams.
Does not itch
Woolpower base and mid-layer garments, made entirely in Sweden, use particularly soft merino wool and therefore do not itch or prick uncomfortably. They are also very suitable for wearing against sensitive skin.
Many people say they cannot tolerate wool against their skin. In reality, wool fibres vary greatly. Exploring the reasons for itching takes us all the way to what merino sheep eat and how they live.
Sheep that spend the whole year outdoors grazing on fresh vegetation produce long, fine and curly wool fibres. Merino sheep that spend part of the year indoors eating dried or prepared feed have shorter, coarser and stiffer fibres. Garments made from such fibres itch because the fibres are not soft enough to bend against the skin.
Woolpower works with merino sheep farms on the fertile lands of Patagonia and Uruguay.
From happy sheep to happy people!
Easy care
The durable, antibacterial top is easy to care for. It does not need frequent washing; on the contrary, the less often it is washed, the better. After wearing it, hang it up to air. Airing it on a balcony in damp outdoor air is particularly suitable.
One of the natural properties of merino wool is its antibacterial action. This is convenient for wool wearers: the garment resists perspiration odours and does not need frequent washing (airing it outdoors or in a well-ventilated room is often enough). When washing is needed, a 60-degree programme and Woolpower wool detergent can be used. The lanolin in the detergent helps preserve the garment's desirable properties wash after wash, allowing Woolpower clothing to be worn for many years.
Durability
The outer layer of Woolpower merino wool clothing contains a small proportion of synthetic fibres to extend its useful life. The surface in contact with the skin, however, is entirely natural and comfortable.
PLEASE NOTE: This is natural merino wool! The small wool pills that appear over time with wear are evidence of this. We proudly call them “pills of pride” :), as a practical, simple and slightly rugged appearance is characteristic of Woolpower wearers.
