From 4 July 2025, the use of fluorine-containing (PFAS / PFOA) fire-extinguishing foams is no longer permitted. The new TAMREX wet chemical extinguisher complies with the new regulations.
Why are cooking-fat fires dangerous and difficult to extinguish?
Cooking fat can ignite spontaneously and is classified as a class F fire. Fats catch fire when they reach a sufficiently high temperature, approximately 360 °C.
Extinguishing a cooking-fat fire is difficult and potentially dangerous for the person fighting the fire: unless the burning fat is cooled sufficiently, it can repeatedly reignite and injure the user.
Wet chemical extinguisher or fire blanket?
Compared with a fire blanket, a wet chemical extinguisher is considerably safer. The special chemical in the TAMREX 3 L wet chemical extinguisher's foam saponifies burning fat and prevents it from reigniting. The fluorine-free (PFAS / PFOA-free) foam meets the new requirements, has good extinguishing performance and is more environmentally friendly.
Long hose and reduced pressure
The TAMREX wet chemical extinguisher has a long hose, allowing the user to stand at a safe distance from the fire and direct the extinguishing jet more accurately. The hose nozzle sprays the extinguishing agent at lower pressure, helping to avoid knocking over a vessel containing burning fat.
Please note: A well-trained person can use a fire blanket without injury, but a wet chemical extinguisher is safe even for first-time users.
Fire rating: 8A – 40F
The wet chemical extinguisher can be used to extinguish burning cooking oils and fats (F) and to put out fires in solid materials (A).
Class A: solid materials that form embers when burning (wood, paper, textiles, plastic and combustible fibres).
Class F: cooking oils and fats.
TAMREX wet chemical extinguishers are suitable for extinguishing electrical equipment energised at up to 1000 V.
The number preceding the fire class letter indicates the size of fire that the particular extinguisher is capable of extinguishing, as determined by testing.
Inspection and servicing
Have the wet chemical extinguisher inspected every 2 years and serviced after it has been used.
