Smart Choice

Why choose a TAMREX fire extinguisher?

Fire safety was our first area of business. It is a cause close to our hearts. Our aim is to build a high level of fire safety awareness among the public and teach everyone how to create a safer environment around them.

Thanks to our long-standing commitment, we can say that we now offer the best expertise, services and products in fire safety. We have earned the loyalty of home users and the trust of professionals.

Fire safety is a complex subject, and a working, effective fire extinguisher is one important part of it.

Even the biggest fire starts small. A tragic outcome can result from a combination of overlooked factors, coincidences and a lack of equipment. Early detection, having a fire extinguisher and knowing how to use it give you a chance to prevent damage.

A working smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm detect a fire and alert you to danger. With an effective fire extinguisher, you can quickly put out the fire.

Please note! A smoke alarm does not replace a carbon monoxide alarm, or vice versa.

TAMREX Premium fire extinguisher range

We have taken our already high-quality powder fire extinguishers to an even higher, premium level. They are made from thicker steel, have fewer welds and contain more effective extinguishing powder. They also feature an innovative E-Z safety pin, longer handles and a hose made from a more durable rubber compound.

As the premium range is made using components, materials and other parts of the highest quality, maintenance costs are reasonable.

Our premium fire extinguishers have an expected service life of at least 30 years, and we give you a 10-year warranty on a new fire extinguisher.

E-Z safety pin: an innovative locking solution

The most striking innovation on our premium fire extinguishers is the yellow device between the handles. This is the innovative E-Z safety pin, a new locking solution that secures the handles to prevent the fire extinguisher from discharging on its own or by accident.

This new solution prevents a common problem highlighted by our fire safety specialists. According to them, one in five people using a fire extinguisher during training struggles to remove the safety pin. As they prepare to tackle the fire, they squeeze the safety pin tightly between the handles and can no longer pull it out. During training, people can be guided, but in an emergency, acting quickly and smoothly is crucial, and every wasted second could cost a life.

You lift the fire extinguisher by the lower, carrying handle. The upper handle, or operating lever, moves down like a trigger. You must remove the safety pin before pressing the operating lever. In the panic of an emergency, however, you may forget this, preventing you from putting out the fire. The cleverly designed E-Z safety pin cannot become trapped between the handles. You can remove it with a simple movement and start extinguishing the fire.

At all other times, the E-Z safety pin stays securely in place and prevents the fire extinguisher from discharging. It is also clearly visible, reassuring you that the fire extinguisher is in working order.

A more effective powder blend

Not all powder blends used by different manufacturers in their fire extinguishers are equally effective, even when the amount of powder is the same. Extinguishing performance can vary severalfold. Nor does the powder in TAMREX powder fire extinguishers need to be replaced during periodic servicing.

TAMREX premium powder fire extinguishers use the best extinguishing powder, with high performance ratings. For example, the performance ratings of a TAMREX 3 kg powder fire extinguisher match those of a low-cost 6 kg powder fire extinguisher, while a TAMREX fire extinguisher with a 6 kg powder charge matches the ratings of a 12 kg powder fire extinguisher twice its size. This gives you the performance of a unit twice the size in a smaller, easier-to-handle cylinder.

Thicker cylinder + fewer welds = longer service interval

The cylinders of TAMREX premium fire extinguishers are cut from thick, high-quality metal in a way that minimises the number of welds. Over time, numerous welds become weak points in the extinguisher cylinder where rust can start to develop. This is often why a fire extinguisher fails its periodic pressure test.

A tough plastic base reduces friction when you move the fire extinguisher, further extending its service life.

A pressure test valve and pressure relief valve

TAMREX premium powder fire extinguishers have a stainless steel valve assembly. In addition to the pressure gauge, they have a separate test valve that allows pressure to be measured using a portable device.

According to technicians who have inspected and serviced fire extinguishers for decades, the pressure gauge needle does not always give an accurate reading. It may be stuck or faulty. A separate test valve is therefore an important additional way to check that the fire extinguisher has the pressure needed to operate.

A more durable hose

A hose is an important feature of a fire extinguisher. Fire extinguishers with a hose are more effective because you can direct the extinguishing agent at the source of the fire more accurately. A hose also allows you to tackle fires in hard-to-reach places, which is often necessary with vehicle fires.

The hose on TAMREX premium fire extinguishers is made from an EPDM rubber compound that does not crumble over time. The hose's metal threaded fitting adds durability. A holder on the fire extinguisher body lets you conveniently secure the end of the hose.

Longer handles

We have fitted the 2 kg and 3 kg fire extinguishers in our premium range with longer handles, giving you a more comfortable grip and making the fire extinguisher easier to use.

Helium test

TAMREX premium fire extinguishers undergo a helium test at the factory. This ensures better leak-tightness than a conventional air test, so you do not have to worry about pressure dropping over time.

Overall, TAMREX premium fire extinguishers offer higher quality, greater reliability and better performance.

High-quality TAMREX powder fire extinguishers

Compared with premium-class powder fire extinguishers, our standard models lack a few extras, but they are effective and reliable. We have been selling, inspecting and servicing them for a long time, and can now say that what we consider standard at TAMREX is top-of-the-range for many manufacturers.

This range includes a 2 kg vehicle fire extinguisher, 6 kg and 12 kg powder fire extinguishers, and a wheeled 50 kg powder fire extinguisher.

Car fire extinguishers

You may have noticed that the 1 kg powder fire extinguisher, or mini extinguisher as we call it, has been absent from the TAMREX fire extinguisher range for some time. This is due to growing fire safety awareness and our desire to offer you equipment that genuinely helps.

Everything you keep in your car is always with you, ready to help you or others: at home, at work, at your holiday home or on a trip. Equip your car with effective, reliable equipment (a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, etc.) so you can provide help without obstacles.

It is time to replace the 1 kg mini extinguisher in your car with one that an ordinary person can actually use to put out a fire. Keep at least a 2 kg powder fire extinguisher in your car, or better still, a 3 kg model, with more extinguishing powder and a longer discharge time.

Most people do not deal with fires every day and panic when a fire breaks out. They struggle to pull out the safety pin, squeezing the handles tightly together and trapping the pin in place (we recommend a fire extinguisher with an E-Z safety pin). This causes further confusion.

Once the safety pin has finally been removed from between the handles, the first burst of powder will often miss the fire. Having understood the pressure and how the powder comes out of the extinguisher, you are ready to aim the next burst at the fire … but the 1 kg fire extinguisher is out of “ammunition”! A 1 kg fire extinguisher has a discharge time of 5–6 seconds. That is enough for just one attempt.

A 2 kg powder fire extinguisher gives you a substantial extra charge, while a 3 kg powder fire extinguisher can tackle a slightly larger fire. Make a smart choice, bearing in mind that your children and other family members may also need to use this equipment when you are not there.

Cooking oil and fat fire extinguisher

A Class F foam fire extinguisher with a special additive, also known as a cooking oil and fat fire extinguisher, is designed to provide extra safety in home kitchens, office kitchens, motorhomes and commercial catering kitchens.

It is in fact a multipurpose foam fire extinguisher that can also extinguish all other types of fire, but contains a special chemical to suppress cooking oil and fat fires effectively and prevent reignition.

In line with the new requirements, TAMREX cooking oil and fat fire extinguishers use a fluorine-free foam agent.

Cooking oil and fat ignite spontaneously when they reach a temperature of around 360 °C. This can happen, for example, if you leave food unattended on the hob. In commercial kitchens, deep-fat fryers filled with oil are the main source of danger.

Extinguishing a cooking oil or fat fire is difficult. The high-pressure discharge from a powder fire extinguisher can knock a burning pan off the hob and set the entire kitchen alight. Using a fire blanket requires knowledge and skill to avoid injuring yourself. There is also the question of how to prevent the oil or fat from reigniting.

WARNING! Never throw water onto burning oil or fat. It vaporises explosively, turning even a small fire into a column of flame several metres high and making the situation even worse.

What makes a cooking oil and fat fire extinguisher special is the chemical added to the extinguishing foam, which turns the oil or fat into soap and thus prevents reignition. The extinguishing agent is also sprayed at a lower pressure to avoid knocking over burning containers.

Our TAMREX range includes 3 L and 6 L cooking oil and fat fire extinguishers.

Li-ion and cooking oil fire extinguisher

The TAMREX Li-ion and cooking oil fire extinguisher is designed to protect devices with lithium-ion batteries, such as laptops, tablets, power banks, chargers, etc. The fire extinguisher also has a Class F rating for extinguishing cooking oil and fat fires.

Battery fires

Lithium-ion batteries pose a particular fire risk, as their high energy density requires sufficient cooling even when smaller batteries catch fire.

The TAMREX 6 L Li-ion and cooking oil fire extinguisher has been tested in accordance with the Dutch standard NTA8133:2021, which sets requirements for extinguishers intended for lithium-ion batteries, and is designed to extinguish fires involving batteries up to 600 Wh.

Special extinguishing agent

The extinguishing agent is a highly effective foam whose low surface tension allows it to penetrate burning materials quickly and extinguish the fire while cooling the area around the battery.

The area around a burning battery

When batteries catch fire, other nearby materials may also ignite and need to be cooled or extinguished.

In addition to battery fires, you can use the TAMREX 6 L Li-ion and cooking oil fire extinguisher to extinguish burning solid materials (A) and cooking oils and fats (F), preventing them from spontaneously reigniting. It is also suitable for extinguishing fires involving live electrical equipment at voltages up to 1000 V.

Fluorine-free foam

From 4 July 2025, the use of fluorine-containing (PFAS / PFOA) firefighting foams is no longer permitted. The new TAMREX Li-ion and cooking oil fire extinguisher and foam fire extinguisher comply with the new regulations.

Foam fire extinguisher

When should you choose a foam fire extinguisher?

The TAMREX 6 L foam fire extinguisher is an excellent choice as a second fire extinguisher alongside an existing, effective powder fire extinguisher. The advantage of a foam fire extinguisher is its deeper wetting action when extinguishing smouldering materials.

The TAMREX 6 L foam fire extinguisher is suitable for extinguishing fires involving combustible solids (A), flammable liquids (B) and live electrical equipment at voltages up to 1000 V. However, a foam fire extinguisher is not suitable for gas fires or for conditions where the temperature may fall below zero.

In line with the new standards, the TAMREX 6 L foam fire extinguisher is fluorine-free.

CO² or carbon dioxide fire extinguisher

CO² fire extinguishers are used in rooms containing large amounts of valuable precision electronics, such as laboratories, server rooms, telephone exchanges and similar facilities. The fire extinguisher is filled with carbon dioxide, which reduces the oxygen level at the seat of the fire enough to stop combustion.

It also cools hot surfaces, prevents reignition and leaves no residue.

Caution: during use, the valve assembly becomes cold enough to cause burns. Hold the fire extinguisher by its handles and do not touch the metal valve assembly.

Our range includes carbon dioxide fire extinguishers with two different charge weights: 2 kg and 5 kg.

Fire blankets

A fire-resistant blanket made from fibreglass fabric can be used to extinguish grease fires, burning household appliances and similar fires.

However, using a fire blanket requires knowledge and skill to avoid injuring yourself. Where possible, we recommend choosing a fire extinguisher, which allows you to tackle a fire from a safe distance.

For a skilled user, however, a fire blanket is a useful addition to a fire extinguisher, providing extra safety.

Important! A fire blanket may only be used once to extinguish a fire.

Our range includes fire blankets in two sizes: a smaller 120 x 120 cm version and a larger 120 x 180 cm version.

Which extinguishing agent should you choose?

A powder fire extinguisher is undoubtedly the most versatile and reliable option, requiring the least maintenance.

TAMREX powder fire extinguishers can extinguish burning solids, liquids and gases, as well as live electrical equipment at voltages up to 1000 V.

With powder fire extinguishers, you do not need to worry about temperature fluctuations: TAMREX powder fire extinguishers can be used and stored at temperatures of -30 °C to +60 °C. Foam fire extinguishers must be stored in conditions where the temperature does not fall below +3 °C.

High-quality powder is more effective at suppressing a fire, which is why powder fire extinguishers always have higher fire ratings than foam fire extinguishers. These ratings, determined through testing, indicate an extinguisher's ability to put out a fire of a certain size.

The main drawback often cited for powder fire extinguishers is the amount of powder left in the room after use. Real-life experience shows that this is the least of your worries after a fire. In most cases, you will face a much bigger job than sweeping up powder.

One important advantage of powder fire extinguishers is their longer scheduled servicing interval. TAMREX powder fire extinguishers must be brought in for servicing every 10 years for a pressure test of the cylinder. Foam fire extinguishers must be serviced every five years. Of course, you must also bring any fire extinguisher in for servicing if you have used it to put out a fire.

Taking all the above into account, powder fire extinguishers are the most effective and reliable fire safety devices, requiring the least maintenance, for your home, holiday home, workplace and car.

A powder fire extinguisher is the first choice for your home. A foam fire extinguisher could serve as a second device alongside a powder fire extinguisher, for example a cooking oil fire extinguisher in the kitchen.

Fire extinguisher ratings

Fire ratings are often discussed when it comes to fire extinguishers. They help you compare devices from different manufacturers and make a smart choice. What are fire ratings, where can you find them and what do they mean?

The standard requires every fire extinguisher to display fire ratings on its label: information about which burning materials it can be used on and how large a fire that particular extinguisher can put out.

For example, the label on a TAMREX 6 kg premium-series powder fire extinguisher prominently displays the following combinations of numbers and letters: 55A 233B C.

A, B and C (and F on cooking oil fire extinguishers) indicate the material the extinguisher can be used on. A denotes burning solids (wood, plastic and similar materials), B denotes flammable liquids (fuels and similar liquids), C denotes flammable gases and F denotes burning fats and oils.

The number before A is determined by a fire test. For this test, a wood crib is built according to specific rules, set alight and allowed to burn throughout before extinguishing begins. The number indicates the length of the test fire in decimetres. Our 6 kg premium fire extinguisher can put out a 5.5 m long test fire, whereas the minimum requirement for a 6 kg powder fire extinguisher is 2.1 m.

The number before B is determined by a flammable liquid test. It indicates the volume of liquid, in litres, in the test vessel that the particular fire extinguisher successfully extinguished.

There is no number before C, as this is not measured during testing. However, every powder fire extinguisher must be capable of extinguishing flammable gases, and a flammable gas test is carried out according to the rules.

The number before F indicates the volume of burning fat or oil, in litres, that the cooking oil fire extinguisher can put out.

Comparing fire extinguishers from different manufacturers with the same charge mass also makes the reason for their price differences clearer. Devices that only just meet the minimum requirements are always cheaper, as the same quantity of powder has a lower extinguishing capacity.
